Three people sustained minor injuries Tuesday when they were assaulted during a robbery and shooting in West Hollywood that was reported to have involved rapper Rich the Kid.
The robbery occurred about 3:15 p.m. in the 7200 block of Santa Monica Boulevard, near La Brea Avenue, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.
The victims told deputies that three suspects confronted them in the alley behind a business and demanded their money and jewelry before assaulting them, the sheriff’s department reported.
“All the suspects got into a vehicle and drove away, westbound from the location,” according to a sheriff’s department statement. “As the suspects drove away, a shooting occurred by an unknown male suspect.”
That unidentified suspect has not been located, officials said.
The robbery occurred at Westlake Recording Studios at 7265 Santa Monica Blvd., according to TMZ, which reported that singer Usher was inside the studio but wasn’t hurt and that Rich the Kid was outside and was the target of the robbery.
A witness told NBC4 he saw a man running along Santa Monica Boulevard who “looked like very anxious, and just scared.”
A white or silver Chevrolet Cruze or Malibu pulled up in front of the man, who produced a pistol and fired about nine times at the car, which was driven away. The witness said it appeared the gunman knew the people in the car because there appeared to be some conversation before the shots were fired.
A member of Rich the Kid’s entourage was pistol whipped, TMZ reported.
The were no reports of anyone being hit by gunfire and no gunshot victims were located, according to the sheriff’s department, which reported that the assault victims were treated at the scene and released.
