A man and woman in their 70s were killed Monday in a two-car collision in Chatsworth, that also critically injured a 9-year-old girl in their back seat, authorities said Monday.
The collision occurred about 3:30 p.m. Sunday in the 9500 block of DeSoto Avenue, Larry Redden of the Los Angeles Fire Department said.
A 2011 Infiniti M37 was speeding south on DeSoto Avenue when it collided at Plummer Street with a 2003 Toyota Avalon heading north on DeSoto, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.
The 73-year-old man driving the Toyota and a 73-year-old woman sitting in the front passenger seat were died at the scene, police said. A 9-year-old girl in their back seat was critically injured and taken to a hospital for treatment.
The names of the dead were withheld pending notification of next of kin. The girl was temporarily trapped inside the car and remained hospitalized Monday.
The driver of the Infiniti, a 26-year-old man from Granada Hills, was severely injured and taken to a hospital for treatment.
No arrests were made, but the investigation was continuing.
