A transient who shed his clothes and touched himself while peeking through windows at a Santa Ana home was released from jail Friday after entering into a plea deal.
Daniel Posadas Renteria, 34, pleaded guilty Thursday to disorderly conduct for loitering on private property and peeking into a home, both misdemeanors, and a misdemeanor indecent exposure count was dropped, court records show. He was given credit for serving his 114-day sentence in jail and released from custody early Friday morning.
A Santa Ana store owner who saw surveillance footage police released while searching for the suspect called police about 11 a.m. on Halloween to report that he recognized the man, who was known to frequent the tipster’s business, said Santa Ana police Cpl. Anthony Bertagna. When the store owner saw him again, he alerted police, who rushed over to the store and arrested the suspect, Bertagna said.
Renteria spent nearly 50 minutes lurking around a residence in the 1500 block of Mar Les Drive on Oct. 27, the corporal said. Initially it appeared the man, while still fully clothed, was casing the home to burglarize it, Bertagna said. Eventually he disrobed and then began touching himself while peering into the windows of the home, where three women were staying as guests, Bertagna said.
Police were called later to the same neighborhood regarding reports of a nude man running around at Mar Les and Westminster Avenue, but were unable to find him, Bertagna said.
