A man was hospitalized Tuesday with a gunshot wound to a leg that he suffered in an attempted robbery in Garden Grove.

Police responded at 7:05 p.m. Monday to a man screaming for help and possible gunshots heard in the 11300 block of Dale Street and found the victim laying in the street with a gunshot wound to a lower leg, according to Sgt. N. Jensen of the Garden Grove Police Department.

Officers learned the suspect pulled a gun on the victim and demanded property, but the victim fought off the suspect and chased him for a short distance before the suspect turned and opened fire at the victim, a 50-year-old Buena Park resident, Jensen said. The victim was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The suspect was last seen running southbound on Dale Street. A detailed description of the shooter was not immediately available.

Anyone with information about the shooting or the suspect’s whereabouts was urged to call Garden Grove police detectives at (714) 741-5800.
