One person was killed when a small, twin-engine plane crashed into the backyard of a home in Riverside Saturday, fire officials said.
The plane went down at around 11:50 a.m. in the 10500 block of Robinson Avenue near Norwood Avenue in the La Sierra Acres neighborhood, the Riverside City Fire Department said.
The pilot, who was the aircraft’s sole occupant, was killed, fire officials said.
The Beechcraft BE50 was flying from Chino to Apple Valley when the pilot reported engine issues to the Riverside Municipal Airport tower, Federal Aviation Administration spokesman Ian Gregor said.
Several homes were damaged due to the crash, but there were no reports of anyone on the ground being injured.
A photo posted on social media by a resident near the crash site shows what appears to be the wing of a small plane in a backyard.
Robinson Avenue between Norwood and Chadbourne avenues will be closed for several hours, according to the Riverside City Police Department.
The FAA and the National Transportation Safety Board were investigating the crash.
