Firefighters sent to a home in the Del Rey area of Los Angeles on a report of a fire Monday found a 53-year-old woman’s burned body in a bathtub, and a coroner’s spokeswoman said her death was being investigated as a suicide.
Crews went to the 11900 block of West Weir Street, near the Marina (90) Freeway, at 9:42 a.m. on a report of a fire, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department.
“Firefighters made entry to find smoke and a deceased person inside the home in a room with fire damage, but no active flames,” Nicholas Prange of the LAFD said.
Arson investigators and Los Angeles Police Department officers were sent to investigate.
LAPD Sgt. Mark Griego told reporters that the body, found in a bathtub, was that of a female and was burned.
She was identified by the coroner’s office, which reported that she was 53 and her death was reported as a suicide.
The woman’s cause of death was not immediately available.
Police told reporters at the scene that a note was found at the location.
