A Long Beach Transit electric bus side-swiped some parked cars Monday, and the driver was later arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence and hit-and-run, authorities said.
The vehicles were damaged around midnight on Pacific Avenue at Anaheim Road, according to the Long Beach Police Department.
It was not immediately clear where officers caught up with the driver, identified as John Moreno, 48, of Corona. He was taken to a facility for medical testing to determine if he was impaired, and was eventually booked on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs and hit-and-run, with bail set at $30,000, according to Long Beach police spokeswoman Shaunna Dandoy.
No customers were aboard the bus and no injuries were reported, Dandoy said.
Long Beach Transit released a statement Monday afternoon that read: “The safety of our customers and employees is our top priority and we take incidents like this one very seriously. We are working cooperatively with LBPD and will fully investigate this matter.”
