A 28-year-old woman is facing six years in state prison for a crash that fatally injured a man who had been jogging in the Playa Vista area of Los Angeles just over five years ago, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office announced Wednesday.
Brittnee Monique Crawford pleaded no contest Tuesday to one count of gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated in connection with the Jan. 9, 2014, crash. Paul Grover, 62, was struck near Lincoln Boulevard and LMU Drive and died the following day at a hospital, authorities said.
Crawford — who was initially charged in 2016 with hit-and-run driving resulting in death and vehicular manslaughter — was subsequently located by Los Angeles police in early 2018.
Investigators had been trying to track her down since she was identified through DNA evidence left in the vehicle, which Crawford abandoned after it struck a pole, authorities said.
She is due back in a Los Angeles courtroom May 16 for sentencing.
Crawford’s mother, Katherine Rene Rodriguez of Perris, and Crawford’s then-boyfriend, Joshua Eugene Walker of Moreno, were initially charged with a felony count of accessory after the fact. Charges against the two were subsequently dismissed.
