A man accused of fatally shooting a 24-year-old Lake Elsinore resident outside a business was charged Wednesday with murder and other offenses.
Victor Daniel Vega, 25, was arrested Monday in connection with the deadly attack on Brayan Guzman.
Along with the murder count, Vega is charged with sentence-enhancing gun and great bodily injury allegations.
He’s being held in lieu of $1 million bail at the Byrd Detention Center in Murrieta and was slated to make his initial court appearance Wednesday afternoon at the adjacent Southwest Justice Center.
According to Riverside County Sheriff’s Sgt. Ben Ramirez, passersby discovered Guzman’s body about 10:25 a.m. Sunday in the 200 block of Graham Street, near Spring Street, in a business district about two blocks from the sheriff’s Lake Elsinore station.
Deputies arrived within a couple of minutes and confirmed that the victim had been shot to death, prompting them to request homicide detectives, Ramirez said.
Following an investigation that entailed canvassing the area and speaking with potential witnesses, detectives identified Vega as the alleged perpetrator, according to the sergeant.
A possible motive for the attack was not disclosed.
The defendant was taken into custody without a struggle about 4:30 a.m. Monday in Matich Park on Limited Avenue.
According to court records, Vega has several unresolved cases pending for allegedly receiving stolen property and obstructing a peace officer. He has no documented felony convictions in Riverside County.
