Authorities Tuesday identified a young woman killed in a crash in Compton involving a hit-and-run driver who remains at large.
Deputies responded to reports of a two-vehicle accident at Compton Boulevard and Bullis Road, just east of Long Beach Boulevard, at 8:50 p.m. Monday, according to a sergeant at the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department’s Compton station.
Jennifer Lopez, 20, of Compton died at the scene, the coroner’s office reported.
Lopez was believed to have been driving east on Alondra Boulevard when struck by the suspect’s vehicle, which was heading southbound on Bullis Road, the sheriff’s department reported.
The driver fled before deputies arrived, abandoning the hit-and-run vehicle at the crash scene.
“She was just a happy person inside,” Lopez’ cousin Ivonne Guzman said in remarks broadcast on Fox 11. “All we want is justice. Whoever saw the person (responsible for the crash), please let us know; let the cops know.”
Investigators did not release a detailed description of the driver, but asked anyone with information to call the Sheriff’s Homicide Bureau at 323-890-5500.
