A fight may have led to a deadly shooting early Friday morning in Van Nuys.
Officers responded just after midnight to a report of shots fired in the area of Aetna Street and Van Nuys Boulevard and found a victim with multiple gunshot wounds down on a sidewalk, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.
He was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead, police said.
“The investigation revealed that the victim was possibly involved in an altercation near Aetna Street when he was shot multiple times by the suspect,” according to an LAPD statement. “The victim ran 50 feet and collapsed.”
The victim had no identification and is currently listed as a John Doe, police said. Investigators believe he is an adult, according to the coroner’s office.
No suspect description has been made available, but anyone with information about the shooting was urged to call the LAPD’s Valley Homicide Bureau at 818-374-1975 to speak with Detective Frank Deperno.
