A burglary suspect barricaded himself inside a shed in Littlerock Saturday after he was recognized by Palmdale sheriff’s deputies on patrol but was not inside when deputies made entry hours later, authorities said.
It started about 12 p.m. in the 35000 block of 82nd Street, Deputy Ed Luna of the Sheriff’s Information Bureau said.
The sheriff’s Special Enforcement Bureau tweeted about 9:45 p.m. that the SWAT operation was over and the suspect was not inside the structure when the SWAT team made entry, Sgt. Christian Scott of the Palmdale sheriff’s station said.
The deputies observed the outstanding burglary suspect and tried to make contact with him, Luna said. The man fled and was believed to have holed up inside a storage shed, Luna said.
The shed was in a vacant parking lot near a farmer’s market so no buildings needed to be evacuated, Luna said.
A sheriff’s SWAT team was called to the scene as well as crisis negotiators and a K-9, he said. A firearm was not observed but deputies proceeded as if he was armed to be cautious, Luna said.
A news videographer at the scene said it appeared the SWAT team surrounded a rural ranch-style house, not a shed.
