Sheriff’s officials were continuing Friday to investigate the fatal deputy-involved shooting of a man who somehow wound up in the front seat of a patrol car in Inglewood, while the man’s mother demanded answers about his killing.

“I just want you to know that, that my son is innocent,” Kala Jordon told reporters at the shooting scene. “He was murdered tonight.”

According to the sheriff’s department, responded about 10:30 p.m. Thursday to the 3700 block of Imperial Highway, between Doty and Yukon avenues, and came into contact with the man, and deputies ultimately wound up shooting the man, who died at a hospital.

Deputies on the scene could be heard on scanner transmissions saying the suspect was armed and sitting in the front seat of a patrol car. Video from the shooting scene showed a patrol car with a pair of bullet holes in the windshield.

Sheriff’s officials said a gun was recovered at the scene. It was still unclear exactly why deputies responded to the area and why they came into contact with the man.

Jordon said her son was a 27-year-old bus driver with Foothill Transit. She said he was staying at a nearby hotel but has gone out Thursday night to get a pizza.

She said her son was shot in a leg, the left arm and above his ear.

“There’s three different entry shots,” she said. “… My baby is laying in the hospital in the morgue.”
