A stolen vehicle suspect who led police in Monrovia on a pursuit that ended in a crash, then ran from officers and was found trying to hide in the backyard pool of a home was behind bars Tuesday evening.
An officer attempted to stop the driver of a gray Toyota Tacoma in the area of California Avenue and Duarte Road about 7:30 p.m., but the driver fled and the officer went in pursuit, according to a statement from the Monrovia Police Department.
At the same time the pursuit began, police began receiving reports of a stolen vehicle that had just occurred several blocks away and the description of the stolen vehicle was an exact match to the vehicle fleeing from the officer, the statement said.
The suspect crashed the Tacoma in the area of Redell and Shrode avenues in an unincorporated area near Monrovia, then ran into a neighborhood and was eventually located trying to hide in a pool in the back yard of a home and taken into custody, police said.
Monrovia police were assisted in their search for the suspect by officers from the El Monte and Irwindale police departments, the Pasadena Police Department Air Support Unit and deputies from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.
No injuries were reported.
The name of the suspect was not released.
