The coroner’s office Wednesday identified the suspect who was fatally wounded in an officer-involved shooting as police responded to an armed robbery at a Glendora jewelry store.

Officers responded about 12:15 p.m. Friday to a call of an armed takeover robbery at a jewelry store in the 700 block of West Route 66, according to Glendora Police Department Cpl. Zach Houser.

“Responding officers arrived and detained a female in a waiting vehicle; she was later arrested,” according to a statement from police. “The area was contained as officers began searching for two suspects … (who) witnesses described as being armed with handguns. One suspect was located in the area of Route 66 and Forestdale Avenue and an officer-involved shooting occurred.”

The suspect, identified by the coroner’s office as Vondarrow Dewayne Fisher, 42, whose place of residence was not immediately available — was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, which was assisting in the shooting investigation.

Officers searched for the second suspect, but he was not found.

The female suspect’s name was not immediately available and it was unclear if she was booked and charged with a crime.

No officers were injured.
