A man on a bicycle was struck by two vehicles and killed Thursday in Long Beach.

The crash was reported about 6:20 a.m. near Redondo Avenue and 11th Street, according to the Long Beach Police Department.

Officers arrived to find the victim lying in the No. 1 northbound lane of Redondo Avenue and two stopped vehicles, one a 2008 Honda Civic that was in the No. 1 northbound lane just north of the victim and the other a 2017 Chevrolet Equinox that was in the southbound No. 1 lane, police said.

Paramedics tried to save the cyclist, but he was pronounced dead at the scene, according to police.

“The preliminary investigation revealed that a female resident of Long Beach was driving (on) southbound Redondo Avenue in the No. 1 lane, when a bicyclist rode his bicycle eastbound across the southbound lanes of Redondo Avenue, stopping in the southbound No. 1 lane of travel,” according to a police statement. “The female driver did not see the bicyclist and struck him, causing the bicyclist to land in the No. 1 northbound lane of Redondo Avenue, where he was stuck by a second vehicle being driven by a male resident of Long Beach.”

Both drivers cooperated with investigators.

The victim’s name and age were withheld pending positive identification by the county coroner’s office and next of kin notification.
