A high-speed chase that began on the northbound San Gabriel River (605) Freeway and coursed through residential areas of Whittier and La Habra ended in Gardena, and two suspects are in custody Monday morning.
California Highway Patrol officers attempted to pull over a vehicle believed to have been stolen when the car, with a man and a woman inside, took off, according to reports from the scene.
The car hit speeds of more than 70 miles per hour after exiting the freeway in Whittier and heading in the opposite direction of traffic at about 10:40 p.m. Sunday.
The chase went through Whittier and La Habra neighborhoods, then onto the San Gabriel River (605) Freeway once more, but headed south this time.
The car exited the freeway and pulled over in Gardena just before 11:30 p.m. with multiple CHP patrol cars in pursuit.
The man and the woman inside of the car were both taken into custody.
