A man was fatally shot Thursday near the skid row area near downtown Los Angeles, and the gunman was at large, police said.

The shooting occurred about 3:10 a.m. near Fifth and San Pedro streets, said Los Angeles police Officer Drake Madison.

The wounded man, about 60 years of age, died at the scene, Madison said. Information was not immediately available on the man’s identity, or whether he was a transient.

The suspect was described as a black man about 6 feet 2, about 215 pounds, whose hair was in dreadlocks that reached his shoulders. A motive for the crime was not known, Madison said.
