36-year-old gang member from Pomona was jailed Saturday morning on suspicion of being a felon in possession of a firearm and ammunition after officers searched his home following a traffic stop.
Members of the Pomona Police Department’s Major Crimes Task Force were conducting a gang suppression operation Friday night when they pulled over a vehicle in the area of San Bernardino and Palmgrove avenues at 8:45 p.m. for an unknown violation. Intelligence gathered during the stop led to a request for a search warrant for the suspect’s home, according to PPD Cpl. J. Hernandez.
Officers obtained the warrant for suspect’s home in the 700 block of Lincoln Avenue. During the search, officers found four weapons, including what police believed was an assault weapon, and several rounds of ammunition of various calibers, Hernandez said.
The suspect, identified as Julio Ramos Jr., was arrested as a result of the items found during the search, Hernandez said.
Ramos was being held in lieu of $35,000 bail and due in court Tuesday in Pomona.
