A 32-year-old man who slammed his van into two people riding horses in Lake View Terrace, severely injuring the riders and killing their horses, initially fled the scene on foot and but is now in custody nn suspicion of felony hit-and-run, the Los Angeles Police Department reported.
LAPD’s Valley traffic Division detectives arrested Rolando Garcia at 5:05 a.m. Saturday and booked him on a charge of felony hit-and-run. Garcia was being held in lieu of $50,000 bail. No arraignment has been set.
The crash occurred at 9:40 p.m. Friday on Foothill Boulevard, near Wheatland Avenue, police said.
After hitting the two riders, the van then crashed into a wall and became disabled, the LAPD said.
The horses died at the scene and the riders were transported to a hospital for treatment of severe injuries, police said.
