A firearm was found Thursday afternoon on the perimeter of a Monterey Park elementary school, but police said a search of the campus turned up nothing else of interest and there was no threat to the school.

The firearm was found about 1:15 p.m. outside Repetto Elementary School at 650 Grandridge Ave., according to Monterey Park police.

The school and the surrounding area were searched by officers and a dog, police said.

“No additional weapons were located and there have been no known threats made to the school,” according to a police statement.

The campus will be searched again before school begins Friday and extra, high-visibility patrols will be added on and around the campus, police said.

Detectives are investigating the origin of the gun.
