Sheriff’s deputies Saturday will conduct a vehicle checkpoint to identify impaired drivers and those without a driver’s license, officials said.
The operation will take place from 8:30 p.m. to 2:30 a.m. at an unspecified location in Santee, according to a statement from the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department Santee Station.
Depending on traffic volume and weather conditions, all vehicles may be checked and drivers who are under the influence of alcohol or drugs will be arrested.
“Our objective is to send a clear message to those who are considering driving a motor vehicle after consuming alcohol or drugs,” Lt. Chris Steffen said. “The public is encouraged to help keep roadways safe by calling 911 if they see a suspected impaired driver.”
The operation is funded by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety.
