A man killed in a drive-by shooting in downtown Los Angeles was identified Monday as a Bellflower resident.

Melvin Sanders, 34, was shot about 5:50 a.m. Sunday near 14th and Hill streets and died at the scene, according to the coroner’s office and the Los Angeles Police Department.

According to police, Sanders was walking in the area when shots were fired at him from inside a car, the driver of which sped away from the scene. The car was described as a 2008 Nissan Sentra with license plate 7SPHO79. No suspect description was released.
