A pedestrian in her 50s was fatally struck Saturday at a busy intersection, San Diego police said.
At about 2:50 p.m., a pickup struck the woman while she was crossing the intersection at Black Mountain Road and Mira Mesa Boulevard.
Officer Tony Martinez of the San Diego Police Department said the woman was declared dead at the scene. Her name and age were not immediately available, and officers were still trying to find out exactly what happened.
The intersection was blocked off to traffic during the investigation.
Nobody else was injured.
NBC7 reported from the scene that the pickup driver had tried to flee but was detained before doing so.
