A silver alert was issued Tuesday for a 68-year-old man last seen in Pico Rivera.

The alert for Ruben Encinas, who is diabetic and was last seen about 5:30 a.m. Monday leaving his home in the 7400 block of Sideview Drive, was activated by the California Highway Patrol on behalf of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.

Encinas is Hispanic, 5-feet-5, 140 pounds, with short, balding black hair and brown eyes. He has a mustache and wears glasses. He was believed to be wearing a black hooded sweatshirt, tan shirt and tan pants, the sheriff’s department said.

He is believed to be driving a tan 2004 Toyota Corolla with California license plate 3FZS289, the CHP said.

Anyone who sees or knows the whereabouts of Encinas was asked to call 911 or the Sheriff’s Missing Persons Unit at 323-890-5500.

Anonymous tips can be called into Crime Stoppers at 800-222-8477 or submitted online at lacrimestoppers.org.

The purpose of the silver alert program is to establish a quick response system designed to issue and coordinate alerts following the unexplained or suspicious disappearance of an elderly person, or a person who is developmentally disabled or cognitively impaired, according to the CHP.
