A certified public accountant who did work for a pair of local Girl Scouts chapters and a cancer center was sentenced Friday to one year in jail and five years probation for embezzling more than $93,000.
Patricia Cascione, 53, of Santa Clarita, pleaded no contest Wednesday to one felony count of embezzlement by a public or private officer.
A second embezzlement charge was dismissed as a result of her plea, Cascione agreed to pay restitution to both victims, according to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office.
She had served as a volunteer treasurer for two local Girl Scouts chapters as well as a Girl Scouts service unit, and used funds totaling nearly $59,000 from the Girl Scouts’ accounts for her personal use, according to the District Attorney’s Office.
Prosecutors also said Cascione diverted $34,500 in donations for the cancer center to one of her Girl Scouts accounts.
The case against her was filed in September 2018 following an investigation by the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department’s Emerging Cyber Trends Team.
