A 64-year-old bicyclist was killed when he was struck by a vehicle in the unincorporated Whittier area of Los Angeles County, authorities said Tuesday morning.
The victim was riding his bike westbound on Whittier Boulevard near the on-ramp to the San Gabriel River (605) Freeway at 6:50 p.m. Monday when he was struck by a vehicle, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The bicyclist, identifed as Alfred Tiscareno, Jr. of Whittier, suffered serious injuries and was rushed to a hospital, where he died, the CHP said.
The driver of the vehicle, Rameshbhai L. Bhakta, 69, of Montebello, left the scene, but later called authorities to report he was involved in a crash and was cooperating with the investigation. Bhakta was not arrested, the CHP said.
Alcohol or drugs were not suspected to have been a factor in the crash, the cause of which remained under investigation by the CHP.
