A pedestrian remained hospitalized Sunday after being struck by a vehicle while walking on a Riverside street, authorities said.

The crash occurred just after 6 p.m. Saturday on La Sierra Avenue just south of Cypress Avenue, Riverside police Lt. Mike Crawford said.

The woman, believed in her 30s or 40s, suffered major injuries, including brain bleeding, and was taken to a hospital, Crawford said.

A 68-year-old Riverside man who was behind the wheel of the 2001 Buick that struck her stopped to call for help and assisted police. It did not appear he was impaired by drugs or alcohol, police said.

Authorities did not release the identity of the victim.
