A Commerce man pleaded guilty Wednesday to killing a commuter aboard a Metro Gold Line train in the Duarte area just over a year ago.
Peter Munoz, 52, was immediately sentenced to 26 years to life in state prison following his plea to one count of first-degree murder, according to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office.
Munoz also admitted that he personally used a knife in the commission of the Nov. 27, 2018, crime that took the life of 62-year-old Xuezhong Bao who was stabbed as the train traveled from Azusa to Irwindale.
A motive for the attack was unclear.
Munoz was arrested that night after sheriff’s investigators interviewed witnesses and reviewed surveillance video. He has remained behind bars since then.
