A probationer was arrested Wednesday in Perris for allegedly stealing a car and being in possession of an assortment of illegal drugs.
Victor Hernandez, 27, was booked into the Byrd Detention Center in Murrieta on suspicion of auto theft, possession of a stolen vehicle, possession of controlled substances for sale and probation violations. He’s being held in lieu of $50,000 bail.
According to Riverside County sheriff’s Sgt. Steve Staton, deputies patrolling the area of Nuevo Road and Perris Boulevard about 3:30 a.m. spotted a car parked near a gas station, seemingly out of place. A license plate check showed that the car had been reported stolen two days earlier, he said.
The sergeant said Hernandez was detained without a struggle and a search was conducted inside the car, resulting in the seizure of 3 1/2 pounds of processed marijuana and smaller quantities of heroin and methamphetamine.
Hernandez was taken to jail, and the vehicle was returned to the owner, Staton said.
