The suspected drunk driver of a stolen SUV slammed into a vehicle in Palmdale, sending both drivers to a hospital, one in critical condition, authorities said Wednesday.
Deputies responded to the crash scene on 50th Street East, just north of Palmdale Boulevard, at 9:55 p.m. Tuesday. A preliminary investigation determined the driver of a stolen GMC Yukon traveling southbound crossed the double-yellow lines and collided head-on with a Nissan Sentra traveling northbound, according to the Lt. Mike Marion of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department’s Palmdale Station.
A news photographer at the scene said both drivers were trapped in their vehicles and were freed from the wreckage by Los Angeles County firefighters.
A 30-year-old woman driving the Nissan was taken to a hospital in critical condition and the 31-year-old woman driving the Yukon was hospitalized in serious condition, Marion said.
It was later determined that the SUV was stolen and the woman driving it was suspected of DUI, he said.
