A man who was shot and wounded by Montebello police was out of the hospital but in police custody Monday after driving a vehicle that may have been involved in a homicide at officers, authorities said.
The OIS occurred about 1 p.m. Sunday in the 100 block of South 10th Street, according to Deputy Tracy Koerner of the Sheriff’s Information Bureau.
Montebello police located a vehicle that may have been involved in a homicide Saturday, CBS2 reported.
“That vehicle was used in a homicide and the detectives attempted to detain the suspect at that time,” sheriff’s Lt. Charles Calderaro told CBS2. “At that point, the suspect ignored their commands, entered the vehicle and attempted to flee and accelerated toward the officers, and officer-involved shooting occurred.”
The suspect was struck once in the lower body, treated at a hospital for his wound and was being detained pending further investigation, Koerner said.
As of 7 p.m., South 10th Street was temporarily closed between Whittier Boulevard and Los Angeles Avenue, Montebello police reported.
The suspect’s name and age were not yet released.
Sheriff’s homicide detectives were investigating the officer-involved shooting.
