Two people were critically injured in a shooting in Long Beach Wednesday evening and police said they believe the suspect is inside a residence on the same block as the shooting.
Officers heard gunshots and responded to the 1600 block of West 19th Street near Canal Avenue about 6:30 p.m. and found a man and woman suffering gunshot wounds to their upper torsos, according to public information officer Shaunna Dandoy of the Long Beach Police Department.
Both victims were taken to a hospital and are in critical condition, Dandoy said.
The suspect is believed to be inside a residence in the 1600 block of West 19th Street, Dandoy said. Officers have established a perimeter, and northbound lanes of Santa Fe Avenue are closed from Pacific Coast Highway, and 19th Street is closed between Canal Avenue and Cota Avenue.
