A fatal shooting took place Saturday in the Hyde Park area and the suspect has barricaded himself in a nearby apartment building, authorities said.
The drama began about 10 a.m. near the intersection of Florence Avenue and Crenshaw Boulevard, according to Officer Jader Chaves of the Los Angeles Police Department.
The shooting victim died, Chaves said, although he didn’t know if the victim died at the scene or was taken to a hospital first.
The suspect was described as a man between 20 and 25 years-old, Chaves said.
A SWAT unit was sent to the scene along with police negotiators to try and talk the suspect into peacefully surrendering.
