A man was fatally struck Sunday by a Metro train in Santa Monica, a police sergeant said.

The crash happened around 6 a.m. at the intersection of Lincoln Boulevard and Colorado Avenue, Santa Monica police Sgt. Rick Verbeck said.

The man was hit on tracks and died at the scene, Verbeck said. His name was withheld pending notification of next of kin. What he was doing on tracks was unknown at this point.

No injures were reported on the Metro train.

The intersection was shut down for hours during the death investigation, according to the Santa Monica Fire Department.
