A 16-year-old girl, possibly traveling to San Francisco, was reported missing after leaving her school in Downey Wednesday morning.

Paula Ferrer left school sometime between 10 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, the Downey Police Department reported. The location of the school was not available.

She is distraught over the loss of both her parents and is likely traveling to the San Francisco area, according to police.

Police said Ferrer left notes for friends and family apologizing for leaving.

Ferrer is described as Hispanic, 5 feet, 7 inches tall, 140 pounds, with brown hair and brown eyes. She was last seen wearing a bright green sweater, black jeans and white shoes, police reported.

Police circulated a photo of Ferrer and encouraged anyone with information about her whereabouts to contact the Downey Police Department at 562-904-2308 or Detective Kautz at 562-904-2327.
