Two motorists were seriously injured Monday in a collision on state Route 371, directly in front of the Cahuilla Casino west of Anza.
The crash occurred about 4:40 p.m., near Homestead Road, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The two vehicles were going in opposite directions when they collided, leaving wreckage on both sides of the highway, a CHP officer said.
Riverside County Fire Department personnel reached the location within a few minutes and rendered aid to both drivers, whose injuries required immediate attention, according to reports from the scene.
A Mercy Air helicopter airlifted the victims to a Coachella Valley trauma center, according to the CHP.
Officers shut down a stretch of Route 371 until 5:30 p.m. to conduct a preliminary investigation and clear debris.
