A suspect in a Sherman Oaks home burglary remained in custody Wednesday while a search continued for a second culprit who managed to elude police.
The break-in occurred about 6 p.m. Monday in the 15500 block of Moorpark Street, near Ventura Boulevard, according to the Los Angles Police Department. Nobody was home at the time of the burglary, police said.
The two men fled from the home, with police pursuing them on foot, but officers lost sight of the pair, according to the LAPD.
After fleeing the area, one of the suspects, 27-year-old Donte Caldwell of Los Angeles, allegedly forced his way into another home in the 4800 block of Orion Avenue, near the San Diego (405) Freeway, and used the resident’s phone. That resident alerted police, leading to Caldwell’s arrest, police said.
The second suspect, however, managed to escape. There was no description of the man, other than he was wearing dark clothing.
According to police, Caldwell was convicted in 2012 and 2016 for robberies, but he was released in August 2019. He was being held in lieu of $50,000 bail.
