A fire erupted Tuesday evening at the Marathon Petroleum Refinery in Carson and at least one explosion was reported.
The fire broke out about 10:50 p.m., at the refinery, which is located at 2350 E. 223rd St., between Wilmington Avenue and Alameda Street and south of the San Diego (405) Freeway.
Details of what sparked the fire were not immediately available.
Video from the scene showed several burn-offs occurring at the plant.
There were no immediate reports of injuries.
All northbound and southbound lanes of the San Diego Freeway at Wilmington Avenue were blocked until further notice, due to the fire, the California Highway Patrol reported.
The refinery “is the largest refinery on the West Coast with a crude oil capacity of 363,000 barrels per calendar day,” according to the company’s website.
