The driver of a pickup who died when it crashed into a traffic signal in Corona was a resident of Anaheim, authorities said Saturday.

Gabriel Trejo was 18, according to the Riverside County coroner’s office.

Officers responded to the intersection of Main Street and Stan Reynolds Parkway about 6:50 p.m. Friday and found the pickup “resting around a traffic signal pole with major damage,” according to a statement from the Corona Police Department.

The driver was freed from the wreckage and Corona Fire Department paramedics began providing treatment at the scene before taking him to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead, the statement said.

It was unclear if alcohol or drugs were a factor in the crash, police said.

Anyone who witnessed the crash was asked to contact Officer Jason Gardner at 951-817-5784 or via email at Jason.Gardner@CoronaCa.gov.
