Authorities Saturday continued to investigate a traffic collision that killed a pedestrian in Palm Desert.
A Chevrolet Suburban struck a 52-year-old man just before 6 p.m. Thursday near Miriam Way and Dinah Shore Drive, according to the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department.
First responders attempted life-saving measures on the man, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Coroner’s officials identified him as Kurt Scheel of Rancho Mirage.
The driver of the vehicle, a 34-year-old Palm Desert man, remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators, sheriff’s officials said. No arrests were made.
The preliminary investigation indicates the pedestrian was in the crosswalk but crossing against a “don’t walk” sign when he was struck by the vehicle.
Authorities said that alcohol was not a factor in the crash.
Anyone with any information about the crash was urged to contact Deputy Varon Potter of the Palm Desert Station’s Traffic Team at 760-836-1600, or call anonymously at 760-341-7867 and reference incident #T200580135.
