The coroner publicly identified a man shot to death Saturday in Koreatown.

Steven Phipps was 37 years old, according to the coroner’s office. His city of residence was not available.

The shooting occurred at 6:40 a.m. at South Western Avenue and San Marino Street, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

The victim now identified as Phipps was approached by a man believed in his 20s, who was inside a vehicle, police said. The man pulled out a handgun and shot him, then fled in the vehicle southbound on Western, police said.

The victim was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics, police said.

It was unknown if the shooting was gang related.
