A traffic stop for a vehicle code violations in Pomona led officers to find a loaded, stolen handgun in a vehicle occupied by a known, documented gang member who served time in prison for a 2010 killing, police said Sunday.

The stop was made a little after 7:30 p.m. Saturday in the 300 block of Fuego Avenue, the Pomona Police Department reported.

Pomona resident Samuel Boyd, 27, was arrested on suspicion of being a gang member carrying a loaded firearm, possession of a stolen firearm, being a felon in possession of a firearm, felon in possession of ammunition and child endangerment, police said.

A 7-year-old child who was related to the driver was also inside the vehicle with Boyd. The child was released to a legal guardian and Boyd was booked at the Pomona City Jail.

In 2011, Boyd pleaded no contest to voluntary manslaughter and was sentenced to three years in state prison in connection with the fatal shootings of two juveniles at Ted Greene Park in Pomona in 2010. Four other people also pleaded guilty in the case.
