A traffic stop for a vehicle code violations in Pomona led officers to find a loaded, stolen handgun in a vehicle occupied by a known, documented gang member who was also a convicted murderer, police said Sunday.

The stop was made a little after 7:30 p.m. Saturday in the 300 block of Fuego Avenue, the Pomona Police Department reported.

Pomona resident Samuel Boyd, 27, a convicted murderer, was arrested on suspicion of being a gang member carrying a loaded firearm, possession of a stolen firearm, being a felon in possession of a firearm, felon in possession of ammunition and child endangerment, police said.

A 7-year-old child who was related to the driver was also inside the vehicle with Boyd. The child was released to a legal guardian and Boyd was booked at the Pomona City Jail.
