A bicyclist was hospitalized Tuesday morning in critical condition with head injuries he suffered in a hit-and-run crash in Garden Grove and a 26-year-old suspected drunken driver was located a short distance from the crash scene and arrested for felony hit-and-run and DUI.
Officers responded to the intersection of Orangewood Avenue and Euclid Street about 11 p.m. Monday and found the bicyclist with major head trauma, according to Sgt. E. Leyva of the Garden Grove Police Department.
The rider, who had the right-of-way, was taken to a hospital by Anaheim Fire and Rescue paramedics in critical condition with stable vital signs, Leyva said.
Moments later, officers located the suspect’s vehicle about a quarter-mile away and the driver, identified as Victor Medina of Garden Grove, was taken into custody after he “showed signs of impairment,” Leyva said.
A news photographer described the vehicle as a Chevrolet Suburban with heavy front end damage.
The intersection of Orangewood Avenue and Euclid Street was closed until further notice.
Anyone who witnessed the hit-and-run crash was asked to call GGPD Traffic Investigator Paul Ashby at 714-741-5823.
