A bicyclist died Friday in a collision with a minivan in an Escondido intersection, authorities said.
The man was riding north on Cedar Street when the eastbound Dodge Grand Caravan struck him at East Grand Avenue about 8 a.m., according to police.
Medics tried in vain to revive the bicyclist before pronouncing him dead at the scene, said Lt. Chris Leso.
Officials were working to confirm his identity at midday, the lieutenant said.
The motorist, a 39-year-old Escondido man, was uninjured.
It was not immediately clear who had the right of way, Leso said.
The road crossing was expected to remain closed for investigative purposes into the early afternoon, along with the eastbound lanes of Grand between Beech and Date streets, according to police.
