Five people, including three young children, are hospitalized Tuesday with injuries suffered in a crash in North Hills caused by a suspected drunk driver.
The crash was reported in the 15200 block of Nordhoff Street, east of Sepulveda Boulevard, at 11:55 p.m. Monday, according to Margaret Stewart of the Los Angeles Fire Department.
A preliminary investigation determined a Toyota SUV was traveling at a high rate of speed eastbound on Nordhoff when it veered into opposite lanes and crashed head-on into another SUV, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.
Twins about 4 months old and a 2-year-old child were in the Toyota and taken to a hospital with moderate to serious injuries. The driver of the SUV that was hit was also taken to a hospital in serious condition. ABC7 reported one of the twins was airlifted to a hospital.
The driver of the Toyota, described only as a 23-year-old woman, was suspected of DUI and taken to a hospital in unknown condition.
Police said they did not believe rain was a factor in the crash.
