A would-be thief attacked three people with a baseball bat Tuesday while trying to steal a cell phone from one of them in a Pacific Beach alley, authorities said.
Patrol officers responding to a disturbance in the 900 block of Garnet Avenue shortly after 6:30 a.m. found two men and a woman suffering from minor injuries, according to San Diego police.
The victims — two of them husband and wife — told them a man had attacked them with a bat while trying to take a mobile phone from one of the two men, Sgt. Matt Botkin said. Following the assaults, the assailant ran off and ducked into a restaurant a short distance away, the sergeant said.
Officers arrested the suspected robber nearby a short time later. His name was not immediately available.
Paramedics tended to the victims at the scene, then took one of them to a hospital for further evaluation, Botkin said.
