A 28-year-old suspected gang member on probation was arrested after leading police on a chase through the streets of Pomona early Thursday, leading to the discovery of drugs, guns and ammunition.
When Pomona Police Department’s Major Crimes Task Force tried to stop a speeding car with tinted windows near White and Monterey avenues area just after midnight, the driver sped away, according to Sgt. M. Medellin.
Officers pursued the man as he attempted to ditch a large quantity of methamphetamine while driving, Medellin said.
They followed Jose Luis Cabrera until he stopped in front of his home in Pomona, and after a brief struggle, arrested him and recovered several grams of methamphetamine from him, Medellin said.
Police then searched Cabrera’s home and found three firearms, several rounds of ammunition, body armor and a high-capacity gun magazine, Medellin said.
They also found methamphetamine, marijuana, packaging materials and $3,280 in cash, Medellin said.
Cabrera was arrested for suspicion of felony evading, possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking and a probation violation.
