Velton Johnson, a social studies, history and gardening teacher at Free L.A. High School was fatally struck by a hit-and-run driver in Long Beach, and police Sunday were searching for the motorist.
The crash occurred Monday evening while Johnson was crossing the street at 7th Street and Ultimo Avenue, according to his students.
A Cheyenne song memorial led by Northern Cheyenne healers was held Sunday evening by the Youth Justice coalition at Chuco’s Justice Center, 1137 E. Redondo Blvd., Inglewood.
